A 52-Week Photo Journey

Week 40 – #49. Ugly

The Martians are coming…The Martians are coming! You may think this photo has been manipulated in Photoshop, but I can assure you that it has not. This ugly monstrosity is known as the Space House or Flying Saucer House. When it was built in 1970, the builder envisioned building similar houses around the nation, but the cost became prohibitive. So the prototype mothership became a one-of-a-kind Chattanooga structure. Isn’t Chattanooga fortunate??? Some find the structure interesting but I see it as an ugly eyesore and wish that one day Scotty would beam it up.

A true Southerner, I was born in Georgia but lived most of my adult life in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2001, my husband and I retired and moved to beautiful Sarasota, FL. We quickly realized that we were not retirement material and could not play golf two or three times a week so we got our real estate licenses and affiliated with Coldwell Banker on Longboat Key. My love for photography is very beneficial to me when photographing interiors and exteriors of the homes we list. Other than photography, I have a keen interest in genealogy and golf (whenever I can find the spare time from our real estate practice).

  1. spot on – that IS ugly.

  2. OMG…the builders vision is definitely clouded. This is funny but only if one lives outside Chattanooga!

  3. Maybe with the weather changing – Chattanooga should wish for a hurricane – with that design – it would surely fly away. You win for this category – I don’t think I can top it. I have been searching for what to post for this theme and have yet to find something appropriate.
