Week 9 – #23. Lamp Posts

Lately, I have had a fixation on the beautiful clouds we have had in Sarasota and when I saw a line of lamp posts with white, puffy clouds in the background, I knew I had my photo for this week. Looking at this beautiful scene made me wonder how street lighting came into existence. If you’re curious, as I was, read about it here.

Week 8 – #5. Butterflies And/Or Bees

Even though I am terrified of bees, I have been looking everywhere for butterflies and/or bees to photograph, but with little success. Quite honestly, even though it is only Week 8 of the challenge, I was fearful I would be a failure … until today when I spotted this gorgeous swallowtail. The first of two photos below was processed with a texture from Kim Klassen, giving it a dreamy appearance and softening the orchid. I like the look.

The second photo below is of the same butterfly but I was surprised to see that its underneath side was reversed in pattern and color. Okay, now that I have your attention, I must confess; otherwise, Patricia Reed will hang me by my hair from the highest rafter! I found this butterfly toes up and dead as a doornail in my driveway! Since I was on my way out for a real estate appointment, I gently picked it up and placed it on the top shelf in my refrigerator (Mike was not at all amused) until I could get back home to photograph it. When I returned home, I grabbed my camera, removed it from the refrigerator and placed it on my flowers. Worked like a charm … err … for me, not the butterfly. RIP Pretty Butterfly.

Week 7 – #1. At A Distance

As many of you know, I am a Coldwell Banker real estate agent serving Sarasota and Manatee Counties with an office in Sarasota on Longboat Key. Often I have said if a person works, his/her workday would pass more quickly if they had a nice view from their office window. Although this view is from our conference room, it is visible as I walk through the various offices and hallways. You’ll notice at a distance is where Sarasota Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico.

Week 6 – #22. Group Portraits

Mostly, my photography interests lie in landscapes, street photography and macro. I have never given much thought to taking group portraits and was troubled as to what I could photograph to satisfy that theme. However, as noted in my previous post, I attended the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School’s performance recently and, although I was not certain it was permissible, I took my camera and managed to snap a few decent shots from my seat high in the balcony. After cropping, and with a little help from Photoshop, I am not too unhappy with this photo.  Click the photo for an enlarged view.
