A 52-Week Photo Journey

Week 21 – 11. Diptych/Triptych

As the Christmas season approaches I find myself thinking about a wonderful trip I made recently to the Biltmore House in Ashville, NC with four friends. It is a special place to visit any time of the year but I find it especially beautiful when it has been decorated with poinsettias, red bows, wreaths, sprigs of greenery and Christmas trees in every room. One photo will not give you enough of an idea as to how beautiful its rooms are so I elected to provide you with a “diptych/triptych.” I am wishing all my friends and family a Merry Christmas surrounded by those you love.11. Week 25 – #8. Break the Rule of Thirds

Sometimes photographers simply must “break the rule of thirds” and we are taught that it is perfectly okay to do so. A good example is the below photograph taken in the financial district which, by the way, I had to climb up on a ledge in order to get my camera high enough to reach over the crowd. Yes, I was able to scurry down before the nice policeman walked over. I waved and smiled and he gave me a thumbs up.

Week 23 – #52. With A Ball

While in New York this week, we walked downtown to see the Christmas decorations and I must say they took my breath away.  Across from 30 Rockefeller Center on the Avenue of the Americas, I managed to squeeze between a group of people to take a photograph of what can be done “with a ball” and some imagination.

Week 20 – #7. Circle In A Square

If driving out University Parkway in Sarasota, FL near the UTC mall doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, nothing will. Brilliant lights wrap tall Royal Palm and Cabbage Palm trees, hang from water oaks, and gracefully drape the shrubbery. Tall lighted candles, drummer boys, boxes aglow with flashing lights, red ribbons and wrapped with colorful Christmas paper, lighted rowers floating in water, and so much more. As I was returning home from having an early dinner with my husband, I saw the entrance to the Square at UTC, an out parcel across from the mall, and noticed it was decorated with lights which formed circles of snowflakes. Lucky for me that I had my camera and captured “Circle In A Square.”

Week 22 – #18. Holiday Spirit

Every year, the Sarasota Yacht Club has the Lighting of the Fleet in preparation of the Christmas season and it’s one thing I try not to miss. This year, however, I took a side trip up to Tarpon Springs with several photography buddies and it just so happened that the Lighting of the Fleet was held on the same night, so I missed it. 😦 I did not miss out on a lot of fun, however, because the people in Tarpon Springs were in the holiday spirit. Boats, storefronts and people were ready for Christmas!

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish my friends and family a joyous Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. Thanks for the love you have so freely given to me throughout the year.
