The Oculus, known as the new World Trade Center transportation hub, is located in lower Manhattan on the site of the World Trade Center and is indeed a strangely designed glass and steel structure. It officially opened to the public in March, 2016. At a cost of 4 Billion Dollars, when completed it will serve daily commuters and visitors from around the world. During the next few weeks, I will post a few more photos representing different views of the Oculus which I think satisfy other 52-Week themes, but today I am sharing this photo which I took from the back side. As I walked on the street behind the Oculus, I turned around and gazed in amazement when I saw “where the Freedom beacon meets the sky.”

Nice shot.
When I was there in May, there was still a lot of chainlink and plywood barriers around the base – so you could only photograph it from a distance so it didn’t look opened, though we approached it from a different side/street than you. I didn’t get the name of the building, so thank you for providing that. It was interesting to photograph.

Work is still in progress on the Oculus; therefore, the chainlink fence and plywood barriers are still in place. It’s such an unusual structure and I was determined to find a way to get around/over the barriers. I’m glad you liked the photo.

Thanks, Roxana. I did take many photos while in NYC so definitely the next few weeks of posts will be from there. Oh gosh, my throat was sore by the time I got off the plane. I cannot recall ever talking that much! What a coincidence that our seats were next to each other.
